Ongoing series
Galet - sculpture - Samson Penot

At the origin of this series, there is a simple and almost unconscious gesture: picking up a pebble on the beach, rolling it under your fingers, keeping it in your pocket without really knowing why. A gesture we have all repeated, without clear intention, but which says something about our relationship to matter, to time, and to ourselves.

Pebbles are the result of a long process of elaboration. Their roundness, their stability, their capacity to settle in the bed of a river, on the edge of a beach, in the hollow of a hand, are not the result of chance, but of time that shapes, transforms, adapts.

These pebbles, we pick them up, sometimes just for the duration of a walk, the time it takes for a thought to form. Sometimes we bring them home, into our interiors, for later or to remember. So many moments in which they accompany us and take part in building a thought, a memory, a future, allowing us, in turn, to find our place.

These sculptures are made of plywood, assembled and sanded until the material is forgotten. One thinks of stone, of ceramic. It is wood. This slippage between what a thing is, what it appears to be, and what it becomes runs through the entire series.

Each sculpture in this series is available for acquisition. For any enquiry regarding availability or pricing, please use the contact form.
